Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT THERAPY, INSURANCE, AND BE KIND COUNSELING
Which insurance providers do you accept?
Sarah currently accepts Aetna, United Healthcare, Oxford, Oscar, UMR, and Horizon BCBS in New Jersey through Headway. For all other insurances in New Jersey, she is an out-of-network provider. In New York, she is an out-of-network provider for all insurances.
Associate Therapists Gabrielle and Ashley are out-of-network providers for all insurances, both in New Jersey.
What’s the difference between in-network and out-of-network?
In-network means we are participating providers in certain insurance plans.
For example, if you want to work with Sarah, she is in network with these plans (Aetna, United Healthcare, Oxford, Oscar, and Horizon BCBS). But if you have Cigna, for instance, she would be considered an out-of-network provider to you, since she isn’t partnered with that particular insurance plan.
We know the details of your insurance plan can be hard to interpret. Whether you have in-network insurance or out-of-network benefits you’d like to redeem, we’ll help you understand what it all means!
What is a superbill and do you provide them?
A superbill is a document that includes information about our sessions to send to your out-of-network insurance provider for reimbursement at the end of each month. From there, your insurance directly sends you a reimbursement for the amount your insurance covers. We no longer provide superbills because we use Thrizer.
What is Thrizer?
Thrizer is a third-party billing platform that makes it easier for you to access and submit claims for out-of-network benefits.
If you choose to use Thrizer, after each session, we’ll inform Thrizer that we met for our session. Thrizer will then submit the claim for our session directly to your insurance carrier for out-of-network reimbursement. After the claim processes, they will provide a 50-80% reimbursement directly to your bank account once you’ve met your deductible.
What is telehealth?
This is an accessible form of therapy via phone or video conferencing where therapists (like us) can provide sessions for those who cannot attend in person. Telehealth may be part of your insurance plan, but I always recommend confirming with your insurance just in case.
Do I have a cancellation or no-show policy?
Yes. We understand that certain events may come up unexpectedly. However, this time is reserved for you and hard to fill last-minute without notice. If you do not cancel your session within 24 hours there will be a $100 cancellation/no-show fee.
How do we decide how often we meet for sessions?
We’ll decide together the frequency of our sessions. However, I first recommend weekly therapy to build our therapeutic relationship while giving you time to implement strategies we discuss. We can then decrease how often we meet depending on how progress is made.
